Boudu is an excessive, untameable and profoundly human character. He inhabits the margins, challenges conventions and moves through the world without asking permission, driven by desires, impulses and a logic of his own that does not always coincide with ours.
Balancing rough humour, discomfort and tenderness, the performance takes us into a universe where laughter and unease walk hand in hand. What at first seems absurd reveals itself to be surprisingly familiar; what makes us laugh ultimately exposes vulnerabilities we recognise in ourselves.
Created and performed by Bonaventure Gacon, “Par le Boudu” has become a landmark of contemporary circus. For more than twenty years, this singular figure has travelled across stages and festivals, reinventing the art of clowning through a presence that is at once rough, poetic and deeply moving.
