New Bowing House
Programme

Centre for Planetary Relations · Odemira

The New Bowing House – Centre for Planetary Relations, in Odemira, is part of the New Bowing project. It is a place for encounter and creation, welcoming cultural, artistic and community practices, always intending to nurture relationships between people from different cultures.

Its programme unfolds along three main lines: in-house programming, featuring activities conceived and run by the New Bowing House team; ongoing hosted activities, which bring together partner projects with regular presence throughout the year; and occasional hosted activities, open to specific and temporary initiatives. Only the activities of the in-house programme are under the direct responsibility of the New Bowing House team. For all other activities — ongoing or occasional — those interested should contact the organisers indicated in each case.

Together, these proposals make the New Bowing House, located in Odemira in the former Student Centre, a living and plural space, where generations, cultures and imaginaries intersect.

In-House Programme

4:30 pm – 7:30 pm Tuesdays
(knowledge sharing in ironing and garment drop-offs)
New Bowing Ironing
with Reka D C

In the Sewing Room of New Bowing House, ironing does not usually take place. This gave rise to the New Bowing Ironing: a space for learning, sharing and practical support, where the iron becomes a tool for meeting, knowledge transmission and skills development.

Open to anyone who wishes to learn, practise, experiment or seek occasional support, the New Bowing Ironing welcomes people interested in ironing together or receiving help with this everyday task. Guidance is provided by Reka D C, a woman living in Odemira, originally from Nepal, who places her knowledge at the service of the community in an atmosphere of care and proximity.

The New Bowing Ironing thus establishes itself as a space for experimentation, vocational guidance and empowerment, where everyday skills can gain new meanings and open pathways towards sustainable entrepreneurial journeys. This activity is part of the LABOR axis of the New Bowing project.

Hands on the Machine - Sewing Workshop
with Simi Kaur

Among vibrant threads and fabrics filled with memories, seamstress Simi Kaur, who came from India to Odemira, invites each participant to create with their hands and in rhythm with the sewing machine.

In this workshop, participants learn to master the needle and the pedal, giving new life to pieces they bring along to repair, reinvent, or listen to. Technique intertwines with the delicacy of gesture and with stories that are stitched together, stitch by stitch.

“Hands to the Machine” is a space for meeting and sharing, where every patch matters and every line can open a new path.

Death Café
Entre Mundos

Led by a group of women drawn together by the inevitability that unites us all - Entre Mundos - this is an open gathering to talk about death and dying

A “Death Café” is not a reading session, nor a professional support group for dealing with grief or emotional pain. However, grief and emotions may, of course, be shared. Instead, it is a safe and informal space where anyone can reflect on death, voice questions, fears or curiosities, and listen to different perspectives with respect and openness.

In a warm and welcoming atmosphere, participants are invited to sit around the table, enjoy cake, sip hot tea, and let the conversation flow naturally.

Sattva Yoga
with Raquel Louçã and Sérgio Ayni

Rooted in an ancient tradition originating in the Himalayas, this practice offers a wide range of techniques that support each person in building a healthier and more balanced life, honouring their true nature, regardless of age, body or previous experience with yoga.

Sattva Yoga goes far beyond the more common Western approach, which focuses mainly on physical postures and a brief meditation at the end of the class. Its vision is deeply holistic, placing strong emphasis on Pranayama and Kriyas — breathing exercises and techniques that combine repetitive movements with conscious breathing or mantras.

In some sessions, time is also dedicated to sound healing, using various musical instruments such as Tibetan singing bowls, gongs and flutes. These sound vibrations promote deep and immediate relaxation, both physically and mentally.

Classes vary in intensity and character: some are softer and more meditative, while others are more dynamic and energetic, incorporating group work and, at times, dance. Each class is a unique experience.
