This is a laboratory for travelling between languages and acquiring helpful knowledge for living in Portugal. Here, participants learn to converse in Portuguese and English and listen to other languages — such as Asian — that echo through the streets, shops, schools, and health centres of Odemira.
Led by teachers Marta Brandão, Liliana Magalhães and Marta Pinto, this space encourages the sharing of the Portuguese language and the learning of other languages, each with its own logic and unique way of explaining the world. In this context, these languages begin to relate to and connect with one another.
With playfulness as a common ground, these lab-style meetings promote a fluid exchange of languages, where none prevails over the others. Instead, all coexist in dialogue.
This activity takes place at New Bowing House – Centre for Planetary Relations. It is part of the “Person” programme within the New Bowing project. It aims to strengthen relationships between local and migrant populations by creating informal spaces for togetherness, collaboration, and mutual support.
