Christo was a Bulgarian-born visual artist who, rather than revealing a work, concealed it, wrapping it in fabric or other materials. He wrapped enormous buildings, bridges and architectural structures, bringing art into the urban landscape through surprise and transformation. He wanted audiences to look at these buildings differently.
Over these two open days, we will use paper as a way of thinking and creating. We will use paper to explore dreams, build machines that solve problems and write down recipes from Iraq. We will lay the tablecloths, also made of paper, and discover paper as a material responsive to gesture, water and ink made from plants.
On Saturday, many hands will prepare a soup of Iraqi origin, and we will gather around the table for dinner. On Sunday, we will wrap, build and paint with paper, before entering Nico’s dreams in a puppet performance that will touch children and adults alike.
Two days to wrap up some of life’s important things: cooking, drawing, shadows, the future, painting and building.
