Open day to the Planet #9 COURAGE · COURAGE · MUT · CORAGGIO · شجاعة · साहस

New Bowing House – Centre for Planetary Relations · Odemira

Courage does not always make noise. Sometimes it is simply opening a door, entering an unfamiliar house, trying something for the first time, or sitting at a table with people from different parts of the world.

For this Open Day to the Planet, New Bowing House invites visitors to wander through its rooms and spaces, transformed by the energy of Summer Bowing, a week of creation, exchange and experimentation that brought together young people from different cultures, languages and life journeys.

There is a radio programme to listen to, second-hand clothes transformed into new possibilities to wear, clay worlds to discover, fanzines to browse through, images from a film created in just one week, sound installations to experience while lying down, and freshly prepared juices. These are experiences created by young people who open the doors of the House and invite us to see the world through their eyes.

Courage can also be tasted. Throughout the weekend, participants will learn how to prepare Cachupa and Cape Verdean Fish Pasties and, later in the day, share food, music and dance through African Sounds led by Licínio Silva.

Between stories worn on the body, voices waiting to be heard and encounters yet to happen, this is a day to discover how courage can become a daily practice of imagination, hospitality and living together.

New Bowing House - Centre for Planetary Relations is a space of shelter, creation and encounter, open to everyone. Created within the scope of the Novo Bowing project, it is based in Odemira, in the former Students' Centre. It hosts artistic activities that promote dialogue between cultures and the imagination of new ways of living together.

Summer at Home

Summer Bowing filled New Bowing House with ideas, experiences and collective creation. Now it is time to open the doors.

Guided by young people from many parts of the world, visitors will be able to explore the different spaces of the House and discover radio programmes, clay worlds, reused and transformed clothing, fanzines, moving images, freshly prepared drinks and many other experiences created throughout the week.

After days of work, imagination and sharing, the House invites us to experience the kind of summer that can happen when a house becomes a place of encounter.

Summer Bowing was coordinated by the core Novo Bowing team together with Marta Coutinho, Kali Fawaz, Akshita, Manuel Ruiz, Gonçalo Viana, Simi Kaur and Maya Kempe.

Paula Lourenço's street wardrobes now lie horizontally. Visitors are invited to lie down and listen to what clothes must tell.

A skirt, a work shirt or a coat each carry different stories. Through interviews with residents of Odemira, this sound installation reveals memories, secrets and fragments of life hidden within the folds of what we wear.
