New circus returns to Monchique with two different productions: Hourvari, by Compagnie Rasposo Cirque–Théâtre, and Strano, by Cirque Trottola. Both French and widely acclaimed across Europe for their artistic quality, bring to Monchique innovative visions of contemporary circus, combining high technical demand, original dramaturgy, humour, fascination and a modern reflection on the world and the human condition. Crafted with detail, music, scenography, and lighting design expand these creations into immersive and powerful experiences.

The Cirque Trottola returns with Strano, a creation that takes the audience into a universe of contrasts – between lightness and risk, poetry and grotesque. Titoune and Bonaventure Gacon, central figures of the company, lead a show where the body is pushed to the limit through acrobatics and trapeze, and where the clown emerges as mediator between dream and reality.

Strano is a shared ritual of falls and new beginnings, placing human fragility at the centre of the scene. Both hilarious and melancholic, the show opens space for wonder and emotion, evoking childhood and the unstable beauty of the moment.

The title "Hourvari" refers to the chaotic moment in a hunt when dogs lose the scent of the prey. This metaphor runs through the entire creation of Compagnie Rasposo, addressing the chaos of our times, the fragility of the human condition and the endless search for meaning in a world of illusions. Puppets, presented as figures of disobedience and freedom, add an unsettling and poetic dimension: in this initiatory tale, acrobatics and aerial flights become gestures of liberation from strings and manipulations, oscillating between truth and fantasy, like a great confusion. A visual and acrobatic fable that plunges the audience into a universe of contrasts: light and shadow, silence and crash, fall and ascent.

The direction by Marie Molliens invokes the tradition of the itinerant circus. It merges it with a contemporary language, where live music, aerial dance, physical risk and theatricality blend into a show of great intensity.
