After a year of celebrating Portimão through art, the time has come to bring the artistic programme—curated by Lavrar o Mar Cooperativa Cultural for the city's Centenary—to a symbolic close. This is an invitation to revisit what has been lived and, from there, envision the next 100 years.
In this farewell moment, the arrival of spring—a time of renewal—will set the stage for the burial of the Centenary's artistic programme, ensuring its legacy in time and space. Next to a tree planted in Praça 1º de Maio, intended to live for a century, the programme's communication materials will be symbolically buried, leaving a testimony of the journey taken.
And because every ending is also a beginning, this event will reflect on the work developed, led by Giacomo Scalisi, co-artistic director of Lavrar o Mar. Additionally, the "Laboratory of Thought", one of the Centenary's projects, will once again bring together voices from different fields: anthropologist Pedro Prista, writer Sandro William Junqueira, philosopher Nélio Conceição, artist Paulo Quaresma, and historian Maria João Raminhos Duarte, in a discussion on the city's many layers and the paths for the next century.
The event will continue with the screening of Futuro a Cores, a documentary by young filmmaker Jonas Canelo, closing the artistic programme of Portimão's Centenary with a fresh perspective on what lies ahead.
As a final gesture, the photographs from the exhibition A Cidade Fala, by João Tuna, João Mariano, and Filipe da Palma—previously displayed at the Portimão Museum—will be handed over to their protagonists, celebrating those who gave a face to this artistic tribute to the city.
