Open day to the Planet #5

New Bowing House – Centre for Planetary Relations · Odemira

On the fifth "Open Day to the Planet"*, we once again open the doors and windows of the New Bowing House – Centre for Planetary Relations, in Odemira, to gather flavours, sounds and images that cross cultures, generations and imaginaries. A programme designed especially for families, starting in the kitchen, where children and adults cook side by side recipes from around the world, continuing with the inventive music of the Novo Bowing Band, and ending on the big screen with an animated film about survival in times of climate urgency.

This “Open Day to the Planet” afternoon is filled with music, creativity, intercultural encounters, and invites everyone to come together, celebrate diversity and learn to live together beyond our differences.

NEW BOWING HOUSE - Centre for Planetary Relations is a space for shelter, creation and encounter, open to all, created within the framework of the "New Bowing" project. Based in Odemira, in the former Student Centre, the New Bowing House hosts artistic activities that foster dialogue between cultures and the imagination of new ways of living together.

Cooking workshop
A Grande Cozinha do Mundo
The Children’s Grand Kitchen

A sweet and shared day, where adults and children from different countries get their hands in the dough to prepare a great intercultural snack together. Sandwiches and wraps invented on the spot, savoury and sweet little cakes, colourful salads, fruit skewers, and other delights will be prepared in a manual factory of flavours

Among the recipes to be prepared and tasted: gajrela (a traditional and popular dessert from India and South Asia); Brazilian beijinhos; marble cake; hummus and carrot sandwiches; cucumber and cream cheese with herbs; peanut butter and banana; a rainbow of vegetables; and creamy vanilla and strawberry ice creams.

The table comes alive with decorations that are as delicious as they are beautiful, created with the colours, shapes, and imagination of all. And the snack is accompanied by music from the Novo Bowing Band Sextet.

A film by Gints Zilbalodis

On New Bowing House’s big screen, a stunning animated film that speaks of survival in times of climate urgency. A cat, solitary by nature, sees its home destroyed by a catastrophic flood and finds refuge on a boat inhabited by various species, with which it must cooperate despite differences. On this drifting boat, sailing through mystical and flooded landscapes, the animals face together the challenges and dangers of adapting to a new world. A fiction that approaches reality at dizzying speed: the disappearance of humankind, water as a transforming avalanche, and animals revealing an emotional intelligence capable of creating new forms of shared life.
