In The Savannah and the Mountain, Paulo Carneiro follows the resistance of the population of Covas do Barroso, in northern Portugal, against open-pit lithium mining. The film gives voice to the communities facing the threat of mining, linking the local struggle with global dilemmas of the energy transition. A political and poetic piece of cinema, revealing tensions between development, ecology and social justice.
At this session, the guest will be the filmmaker himself, Paulo Carneiro, who will comment on the film and share with the audience the experience of the creative process and his relationship with the communities portrayed.
The Savannah and the Mountain is part of EscolaNova’s cinema cycle The Room of the World, a meeting place where cinema becomes a tool for reflection and change, curated by Candela Varas.
