QUEM VAI PARA O MAR NÃO VOLTA A TERRA is the story of a family. It is about cod, the most Portuguese of the fish that speaks Norwegian, about the lands of Portimão and the shores of Newfoundland, off the coast of Canada.
In these lands, where the weight of longing is part of the being, part of the soul, reunion has a spicy, bitter, salty taste. The taste of cod, a taste which is part of our history. Our history of hardship overseas, where men choose the cold, the fog, the loneliness. And that loneliness stays with them forever. Even in a house full of family, they prefer to be alone, and all they can think about is going back, sailing, and fishing. Fishing away from the world, fishing away from being. To those lands where the weight of longing is part of us.
