Anthropologist Pedro Prista, philosopher Nélio Conceição, writer Sandro William Junqueira, historian Maria João Raminhos Duarte, and artist Paulo Quaresma will sit down at the same table to think about Portimão in its various dimensions, critically analysing its temporal segments and its historical, economic, and social evolution. This reflection aims to produce ideas and knowledge that will be a fundamental nutrient for a relevant and current artistic programme. These thoughts will be shared with the city at different times.

Biographies

Pedro Prista · Anthropologist
Pedro Prista, Lisbon, 1955. (PhD Antropologia, 1994). A researcher at CRIA IUL and associate at ICS ULisboa, he has worked on processes of social change, particularly in the Alentejo and Algarve, on topics such as emigration, tourism, climate change, water, seafaring, ethnological heritage, museums and cultural projects.
Nélio Conceição · Philosopher
Nélio Conceição grew up in Portimão and lives in Lisbon. He is a researcher at IFILNOVA—Instituto de Filosofia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he obtained his PhD in 2013. He works in the fields of aesthetics, philosophy of art, and contemporary philosophy and is particularly interested in the city's aesthetic, social, and political aspects.
Sandro William Junqueira · Writer
He was born in 1974 in a country that no longer exists. At the age of 11, he caught chicken pox and started reading—he hasn't stopped since. He's a published writer and practising playwright. He coordinates the PANOS project at the Dona Maria II National Theatre.
Maria João Raminhos Duarte · Historian
Maria João Raminhos Duarte has a PhD in History from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon. She has an extensive CV and published articles and conferences on contemporary local and regional history in the Algarve. She is a member of the "Uses of the Past" group at the Faculty of Letters, University of Lisbon, and a trainer accredited by the Scientific-Pedagogical Council for Continuing Education at the University of Minho. She teaches in Portimão at the Eng. Nuno Mergulhão E.B. 2,3 School.
Paulo Quaresma · Artist
Paulo J. R. G. Quaresma, 1972. He began working as a sculptor apprentice to the painter Jorge Vidal. In 2010, he graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Algarve. He has participated in various group and solo exhibitions and international sculpture symposiums. His work has been exhibited in Portimão, Alvor and Toluca (Mexico). Since 2006, he has participated as a sculptor in the "Fiesa" sand sculpture festival. He has participated in sand sculpture festivals in St. Petersburg (Russia), Hurghada (Egypt) and Yanbu (Saudi Arabia). In a team with the sculptor Arlindo Arez, he won the 1st prize in the snow sculpture competition in Pas de La Casa (Andorra). In associations, he is a founding member of A Gaveta - A.C.P.T., Cuneo Sularte - A.C..
